Posted by Līva Miķelsone on

Are you looking to update your home without the hassle of paint or expensive renovations? Peel And Stick Wallpaper might just be the solution you’ve been searching for! Offering a simple, stylish, and cost-effective way to refresh any room, this innovative wallpaper allows you to add color, texture, and pattern to your walls, without the mess or long-term commitment of traditional wallpaper.
We started our Wallpaper 101 series a long time ago with an introduction about our peel & stick wallpaper, but since then, a lot has changed! Over time, new technologies and innovative materials have emerged, expanding the world of peel & stick wallpaper in exciting ways. One of our most notable additions is the launch of our Peel And Stick Eco Matte Wallpaper. While it maintains the same easy installation process you love, it brings unique characteristics, such as its matte finish that’s perfect for those looking to make a stylish statement. Now it is time to dig deeper and get into all the installation details to answer all of your questions of this process!

What You Will Need

  • Peel & Stick Wallpaper - either our Eco Matte or Textile wallpaper
  • Utility knife
  • Mild cleaner
  • Cloth or sponge
  • Straightedge
  • Measuring tape
  • Plastic smoothing tool

Before You Start

Firstly you need to remember that the surface you will be applying the wallpaper on must be clean, dry, smooth and free of any mildew, grease or stains. Thinking of applying peel & stick wallpaper over old wallcovering? We advise removing  it completely. Beautiful long lasting results will be achieved if the wall is smooth and in one color, preferably white, as the old wallpaper will most likely show through.
Secondly, we suggest to cure freshly painted walls for at least 30 days to ensure the surface has dried completely before installation. For best applying and removal results, we suggest using a primer. Our favorite is Roman PRO product line.

Wallpapering Steps

  1. Verify the position of the first wallpaper panel by drawing a plumb line
  2. Peel back about 10 inches of the backing paper at first
  3. Apply the first panel to the top section of the wall
  4. Smooth it out with a squeegee from the middle to the sides
  5. Apply the second panel & make sure the pattern matches side by side
  6. Apply the remaining panels & cut off the excess material with a sharp craft knife
  7. Smooth out all of the wallpaper panels with a squeegee once more

Peel And Stick Wallpaper Installation Guide

When you have unpacked your peel & stick wallpaper, we suggest to unroll the panels & let them stretch for an hour or so to ease the installation process. If you have ordered a wall mural or a complex pattern, we suggest to align first couple of panels on the floor to confirm the pattern matches & to get a visual of how it will look on the wall.
Now that it's time to start the wallpaper installation - you will need to measure how wide your peel and stick wallpaper is, then transfer that to the wall using a pencil. Ensure it is level as usually ceilings and walls are not 100% straight; or use a laser level, if available.
Pull back approx. 10 inches (25cm) of the backing paper from the top of the panel for an easier start. Apply the first panel starting from top and removing backing paper gradually as you go. Don't pull off all the backing paper at once. You can use a squeegee or another smoothing tool to smooth out the wallpaper & remove any air bubbles that may form from the middle to the sides. When you have completed the first panel, continue on to the next. Keep in mind that our wallpaper is designed to align side by side with no overlap.
When all the panels are installed, cut off the excess material from top/bottom of the wall using a sharp craft knife. Then give it a brief smoothing once more to ensure it has stuck properly to the wall surface. We also suggest to repeat the last step after a week or so - for long lasting & fabulous results! Happy wallpapering!

  • Hello, Francine, thank you for your comment!

We always suggest priming the walls prior the installation to improve the adhesiveness and removal of the wallpaper. Please keep in mind that the primer needs to dry for at least 24 hours before wallpaper can be installed. We usually recommend ROMAN PRO line products. :)

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us via info@livetteswallpaper.com for any other questions, as we are always happy to help!

  • Hi! Our walls are plaster and we think they have been painted over at least 2-3 times. Can we apply peel and stick wallpaper directly over our painted walls (after cleaning them with a dry cloth) ? Or should we add primer before? If we add primer, how long should we let it dry before papering? Thanks!
